Squash and pumpkin are healthy and delicious to eat and can be used in so many recipes. Some of our favourites are for soup, pumpkin cake, pesto, roast squash or for a really easy option pumpkin seeds. Great for this are naked seeds which are in Baby Bear and Kakai pumpkin and are delicious dry fried to make a really healthy snack.
Roasting or pan frying squash and pumpkin really concentrates the flavour which is often sweet and chestnutty so works brilliantly with pasta, rice, gratins, pies and to make puddings.
There are numerous health benefits as they are packed with Vitamin A, the antioxidant beta-carotene, more potassium than a banana and plenty of vitamin C. If that wasn’t enough, they are also low in calories, fat, sodium and high in fibre.
Many of our squash not only look great but are delicious to eat and have a long storage potential, if you want to stock up. Some of our best to cook with are Crown Prince, Autumn Crown, Celebration, Blue Ballet, Red Kuri, Harlequin and the ever popular Rolet.
